Like summer in a bowl! 10/20/2007 6:53pm xanthangum,
My stay at Shrute Farms was great. Upon entering, I was (a little) worried, but once I got inside, I changed my mind. The couch in the "Lobby" taught me about Pensylvania's most famous buildings. I will never forget the smell of the manuer that I helped lay. (Or the maneur that was thrown at me.)
You will want to take pictures with the (Bearded, possibly Amish) wildlife, and the night-time themed room made me think of nighttime, especially at night. Be sure to stay at Schrute farms, Guttentag!

This Place is Great! 10/23/2007 9:58am Altmaniac,
Wow! I was hoping that one day a place would open where me and my fellow beet enthusiast could spend a weekend. This is the place. You can plant beets, pick beets, and at night you get to watch Battlestar Galactica!! This place is truly Un-"beet"-able!

Staying at Shrute Farms 10/23/2007 2:23pm tc3612,
Our vacation to Shrute Farms was supposed to be a trip away from stresses of the office, relationships, and the day to day grind. It was also a vacation from electricity, general normalcy, and indoor plumbing. Upon arrival to the beet fields, we almost struck either a very hairy man or a shaved animal with our car. Later on we discovered he was an integral member, and furthermore, half of, the staff. However, nothing could prepare us for our meeting with the proprietor. Before we were even allowed to enter the premise, Mr. Shrute confronted us on the porch, demanding blood tests, our family medical histories, and semen sample, for which he offered us a copy of National Geographic, we graciously declined. After further insistence that we were not Cylons we were allowed to check in. While we were waiting for another couple to check out of the Irrigation Room, we went along with another family on an afternoon goose walk. The children were delighted, scampering along the trail, feeding the geese breadcrumbs and playing duck, duck, goose. They affectionately named it Andy, at which point Mr. Shrute wrung its neck. Needless to say, the children did not eat that night, partly from emotional scaring, but mostly because we ate the goose for supper. The Irrigation Room was an interestingly themed stay, and very accommodating. Until around three in the morning when a pipe suddenly burst over our heads, turning the irrigation room into the pool room. We were left wet and shivering on Mr. Shrute%u2019s sofa, as all of his spare clothes were for large colonial dolls. Early the next morning we left in a hurry taking with us horrific memories, damp clothing, and two cans of Goose Grease.

Shrute Farms 'beets' out the competition!!! 10/20/2007 12:48am ThatsWhatSheSaid20,
If you are a beet enthusiast like I am this is the best place to visit. Dwight the Assistant to the Owner and Mose (who I can only assume is the bell boy) were both a delight and a breath of fresh air. Mose even gave me a great welcome by running beside my car as I drove in.
At Shrute Farms they will teach you everything you'll ever need to know about beets, from how to grow them, to making the best beet wine and everything in between.
There are three rooms you can choose from: The American room, the Night Time room and the Irrigation Room. I chose the Irrigation Room because I have a fascination for water gadgets and how they work, so this was the room for me. Sleeping in a room with water pipes but not having indoor water was Ironic. However, the outdoor facilities brought a certain authentic period charm to the atmosphere that most B&BS would over look.
Another charming feature of Shrute Farms is if you ask, they will read you a book before you go to bed (I think all they have is Harry Potter.) I enjoyed the story, though we had to move into the living room because I felt a uncomfortable with Mose sitting at the end of my bed.
I have stayed at many B&BS but the modest room styles and warm atmosphere at Shrute Farms is what sets them apart from the rest; I highly recommend staying here and will tell all of my friends.

Can't beat Schrute beets! 10/21/2007 11:48pm PamPong69,
After a grueling week at work, I needed a getaway. A coworker of mine told me about this quaint farm in the Amish country called Schrute Farms. I decided to give it a go. I could use a bit of fresh air and get away from the annoyances of technology. Upon arrival, a friendly bearded man carried my bags to my room, which was decorated to the theme of "Nighttime." It was creative, that's for sure. After an enlightening information session on the many medical uses of beets, I was put to work tilling and laying seeds. I wasn't expecting to work on my vacation, but it was strangely refreshing to commune with nature and feel the soil (and manure) in my gloved hands. There was a table-making workshop, and the owner, Dwight, even taught me how to make a corn husk doll! He also lulled me to sleep with a rendition of "Greensleeves" on his recorder. The "staff" was quirky, and went above and beyond! Although I wanted to get away from technology, it was amazing to learn that the farm had just been equipped with wireless internet! I would recommend this trip to anyone who wants a new experience and doesn't mind getting their hands a little dirty.
