What is Dunder Mifflin Infinity?
Dunder Mifflin Infinity ("DMI" is the new online division of Dunder Mifflin, Inc. Paper Company. Created by Vice President of Regional Sales Ryan Howard, DMI was designed to reinvent the business of selling paper. DMI employees will form branches and complete work assignments from Corporate. In honor of Dunder Mifflin's 2006 Salesman of the Year, Dwight K. Schrute, payment for all DMI employees will be in the form of SchruteBucks.


Why should I join the Dunder Mifflin Infinity Team?
In addition to your consummate passion for all things paper, you should have a commitment to excellence and a desire to change the world. Diligent and hard-working employees will be rewarded in SchruteBucks, which can be spent on decorating their Virtual Desks, as well as with exclusive content (video, photos and downloads), official merchandise from the NBC Store, items featured in actual episodes of "The Office", and much, much more!


APPLYING FOR A JOB


Who can join Dunder Mifflin Infinity?
DMI is open to employees worldwide. You just need to sign up to an existing branch. Actual geographical location has no bearing on your success.


How do I apply?
In order to apply for a position at DMI, you must first be a member of myNBC. Our registration process will let you do both. Once your myNBC registration form has been submitted, you will receive an email prompting your to activate your account. Once that is done, you will be able to login to DMI with your email addresses and newly created password, and fill out the Employee Application. Current myNBC and NBC Message Board members may proceed directly to the Employee Application by logging in as they normally would.


How are employees hired?
Users have the choice of signing up as a Regional Manager or as a regular employee. Once a Regional Manager signs up at least 15 people, they are eligible to become the Regional Manager, provided they were the first to submit their employees for consideration.

If you apply as an employee of a branch and enter a branch hiring code that an existing Regional Manager has given you, then you're automatically hired for that branch.

If you apply as an employee of a branch and DO NOT enter a branch hiring code, a Regional Manager will have to approve your application.

Once you're hired into a branch, you may stay there or leave at anytime by clicking on the "Re-Apply" button from your Employee Profile.


Will my chances of getting hired improve if I send out multiple applications to different branches?
No. We offer employees the chance to re-apply if they decide to change branches, or switch from a Regional Manager to a regular employee, or vice versa. DMI only retains a record the last application you submitted. All previous applications will be discarded so you end up as an applicant only for your final branch.


Can I have multiple employee accounts?
Users are free to create multiple employee accounts as long as they disperse them into different branches. Multiple accounts cannot exist in the same branch in order to preserve fairness in the branch voting. For global voting, DMI will monitor the results and reserves the right to void any unfair or invalid votes, to be determined in DMI's sole discretion, including but not limited to votes gained from "clone" accounts (i.e. multiple employee accounts created solely for the purpose of gaining additional votes).


I've been waiting a couple weeks now to get hired. What's going on?
If you have been waiting more than a week to get hired, we strongly encourage you to apply for another branch. We are aware that there have been unfortunate delays in the approval of new members, and are working overtime to resolve this issue.


Which branches are available for employment?
If you apply as a Regional Manager, the drop-down list will only show branches that do not have managers assigned to them already.

If you apply as a regular employee, all branches are available for employment at all times.


What happens if my Employee Application is rejected?
If a branch manager turns down your application, you can then re-apply to another branch. Click the "Re-Apply" link from your profile page.


What happens if my Regional Manager Application is rejected?
Your application will change to one of an employee, and you must be approved or denied by whoever is awarded the Regional Manager position for that branch.




BRANCHES


Can I belong to more than one branch?
No, an employee of DMI can only belong to one branch.


Is there a limit on how many employees belong to a branch?
There is no maximum amount of employees.



How many branches are there?
There will be a limited number of branches available. The current branches are:

  • Why isn't my city on the branches list?
    We at Corporate have taken great care in choosing where we want to expand our business. As some of you have already noted, the DMI branches reflect the same small-city ideals that our physical branches - like Scranton or Utica - do.


    Is it more advantageous to have more employees in my branch?
    A lot of weekly tasks will require submission to Corporate, and employees from each branch will have to collectively decide which employee's submission they think best represents the talent within their branch. Having too many employees may make this process a lengthy one, but on the other hand you will have more submissions to choose from.

    If Regional Managers are concerned about employees not pulling their weight, know that every branch will automatically designate employees as inactive when they have not gained any SchruteBucks for a given time period. This "inactive" designation will prevent those users from being counted toward the entire branch's overall total.

    A branch with the most SchruteBucks does not mean that it is de facto the #1 branch for any given time period (but we will publish those rankings as well). We collect stats based on overall SchruteBucks earned, as well as highest average SchruteBucks per employee per branch.


    What will I do in my branch?
    Employees will receive tasks, discuss them in their own private message board, work on them individually or as a group, vote on their top choices, and submit them to Corporate for feedback. See the Tasks section for more info.


    REGULAR EMPLOYEES


    How do I climb the corporate ladder?
    All DMI employees start off as Temps, with the exception of Regional Managers. Once a certain level of SchruteBucks has been attained, you will automatically get promoted within your branch. The job hierarchy is as follows:

    At certain promotion levels, employees will receive special items, like a new desk or office environment. See the Virtual Desk section for more details.


    If I don't like my branch, can I re-apply at another?
    Yes. Joining another branch is as simple as clicking on the "Re-Apply" button in your Employee Profile menu, and filling out the Application again. Until your new Regional Manager approves your application, however, you will remain in your current branch.


    If I switch branches, will my SchruteBucks and Employee Level stay with me?
    Yes. Everything you have earned over the course of your employment at DMI will transfer over to your new branch.


    Can a Regional Manager fire me?
    No. Firing an employee or manager can only be done at Corporate's discretion, if the employee is acting abusive or posts inappropriate content. Any employee can be flagged and reported to Corporate; each case will be dealt with in due course.

    If an employee doesn't login and record any activity for three weeks, they will receive a notification email stating their employee status is in jeopardy. They will then be given one week to confirm their DMI status. If there is still no response from the employee, they will be moved into the "Inactive Employees" list and their SchruteBucks will no longer count towards their branch's total or average. This is done so that inactive employees do not negatively impact their branch's success.


    REGIONAL MANAGERS


    What is the role of the Regional Manager?
    Users become Regional Managers by signing up and being the first to confirm fifteen people using the Branch Hiring Code.

    In the world of DMI, Regional Managers fulfill the same role that group owners/admins do within myNBC. They will be able to hire branch members, create polls, and submit branch photos/video/etc. to Corporate. They will also be expected to take on a leadership role within their branch, organize task participation and relay important information given to them by Corporate.


    Can Regional Managers be promoted?
    No. Once a Regional Manager, you cannot get promoted as regular employees are even though you earn SchruteBucks in the same way. In recognition of their dedication to the success of DMI, Regional Managers are given the Michael Scott office in their Virtual Desk environment. They will also have the opportunity to purchase Manager Exclusive items within the Infinity Store. See the Virtual Desk section for more details.


    Can Regional Managers quit or be fired?
    Regional Managers may quit as Regional Manager by using the "Resign from this branch" button on the Branch Manager's page. In order to resign, however, they must appoint a new Regional Manager from within the branch. Their new employee level within the branch will be determined based on their SchruteBuck total.

    Regional Managers may also be fired from the branch at the discretion of Corporate. If Corporate receives numerous complaints/abuse reports from a branch's members about the conduct of their Regional Manager, Corporate may exercise judgment by transferring them out of their branch. The fired employee may then have the opportunity to join another branch.


    What if a Regional Manager goes on vacation or leaves the game for an extended period?
    Regional Managers taking any kind of extended leave (longer than one week) will have to appoint an Acting Regional Manager in their absence in order to continue to submit entries for weekly tasks. Corporate will not be responsible for absentee Regional Managers and branches who are unable to submit their work because of an extended absence.

    If a Regional Manager does not resign or appoint an Acting Regional Manager, and goes inactive from the game, the branch's employee with the highest SchruteBucks total will be appointed by Corporate as the new Regional Manager.


    SCHRUTEBUCKS


    What are SchruteBucks?
    SchruteBucks are the official currency of DMI.

    Employees will be paid SchruteBucks by doing simple tasks like uploading a photo or video, changing your favorites, rating an item, posting on a discussion board or adding a comment. They may also be deducted SchruteBucks for getting flagged or getting fired. These small SchruteBuck amounts are capped at Sb $100 per week.

    The real SchruteBuck gains will come in the weekly tasks, however. By participating in weekly tasks, and winning the votes of your peers and Corporate, you will accrue substantial SchruteBucks, which will allow you to climb the corporate ladder.


    What can I do with SchruteBucks?
    You can buy items for your Desk.

    As your SchruteBucks balance increases, so do your opportunities for promotion.


    How many SchruteBucks should I have?
    New employees (they are all "Temps") start off with a Sb $1000 signing bonus. If you found the correct DVD Promo Code you will have earned an extra Sb $100. NOTE: The DVD Promo Code was a limited time offer available to early registrants who joined DMI before Sept. 27, 2007. It is no longer available.


    EMPLOYEE PROFILE


    What's in my Employee Profile?
    Your Employee Profile shows who you are, what rank of employee you are, what branch you're in, your SchruteBucks total, how many Sb you've earned/spent, your Office Faves, your Favorite Co-Workers (whether they're in your branch or not), your Videos, Photos and Comments, and your Desk.

    Your What's New box will always contain the latest new and information for all DMI employees.

    Your Inbox contains messages sent to you from your co-workers, your Regional Manager and Corporate.

    Weekly tasks may ask you to take a photo or create a video. You can upload them onto your profile and then submit them to your Branch for voting.


    What's the difference between Public and Private view?
    The Public view of your Profile does not contain your Inbox and What's New messages. All other modules will be visible.


    BRANCH PROFILE


    What's in my Employee Profile?
    Your branch's statistics: how many total Sb from all its employees, the average Sb total per employee, tasks the branch has won, and Employee of the Week. Employee of the Week is awarded to the branch member who has earned the most Sb in the previous week.

    A list of all Branch Employees.

    Your Regional Manager's name and photo.

    A Recent Discussions/Forum message board. This message board is private and can only be viewed by employees in your branch.

    Your branch's video and photo submissions. All branch employees will vote to choose which submissions they want the Regional Manager to submit to Corporate for tasks that require this.

    Polls. Regional Managers will create polls as a means to gauge the branch's opinions on a variety of topics.


    What's the difference between Public and Private view? Do Regional Managers get a different view?
    Your Branch's Public view does not show your Recent Discussions/Forum or your Poll. It does show Statistics, Employees, Video and Photos.

    Regional Managers get a Managers' Private view of their Branch profile. In the Managers' view they can moderate the Branch Forum, create and edit Polls, approve or deny Pending Employees, and submit Photos and Video to Corporate.


    VIRTUAL DESK


    How does the Desk work?
    Every employee in DMI is given their own Desk to furnish and decorate as they choose. Employees use their SchruteBucks to buy items from the Infinity Store, which they can then arrange on their desk.

    As employees graduate to a different job title, they will be rewarded with a new desk environment. As you grow with DMI your desk becomes more desirable, and you may eventually graduate to an office.

    The most recent shot of your Desk can be seen in your Employee Profile at all times (this is also visible in your Public view). Clicking on the Desk will open the larger, interactive version where decorating and purchasing is done.


    What kinds of items can I buy?
    You can buy anything that would exist on a real-world desk: office supplies, electronics, toys and gadgets, wall items, etc.

    The Infinity Store will also carry Limited Edition items (i.e. items that have a limited amount available for purchase) and Manager Exclusive items (i.e. items that may only be bought by Regional Managers).

    New items will be added to the Infinity Store on an ongoing basis. You will notice that desk items from your Scranton co-workers are now available for purchase, as are special Manager Exclusive items.


    How do my Desk spending habits affect my ability to get promoted?
    Promotions are based on your Lifetime Earned Sb total. You may spend all your current available SchruteBucks on items for your desk, but these purchases will not be used in calculating your next promotion.


    TASKS


    What are tasks?
    Tasks are weekly assignments that employees are asked to complete. They may include, but are not limited to: creative assignments (writing, design or otherwise), games (both skill and arcade-based), photo and video uploads, participatory events, etc.

    Who assigns the tasks?
    Corporate oversees all DMI activity and disseminates all tasks. Tasks will be published on the Tasks page, as well as information given out regularly to all employees.

    Do the tasks have deadlines?
    Yes. All tasks have due dates in order for employees to be eligible for SchruteBuck payment. Some tasks, such as games, may be done as many times as the employee wishes, but SchruteBucks will only be awarded for the duration of the task.

    How does voting work for tasks?
    After a task's deadline, branches will each receive their own voting pages so they can choose a winner from their branch. For branch voting, there is one vote per user per branch. All the winners from each branch will then be voted on by all branches, as well as non-DMI employees who are allowed to vote as well, to decide an Overall Winner. Employees, regardless of the number of accounts they hold, may only vote once in the global vote unless specifically stated in the Voting Guidelines for that task. DMI reserves the right to void any votes gained from "clone" accounts (multiple employee accounts created solely for the purpose of gaining additional votes) or votes that appear, in DMI's sole discretion, to be invalid.

    Are the tasks going to take up a lot of my time?
    DMI will include tasks of varying time commitments: some will be small and can be completing in a matter of minutes, while others may require some planning and collaboration between branch employees. It will be easy for all employees to earn Sb each week by fulfilling the minimum task requirements; employees who excel in certain tasks will garner sizeable Sb rewards.

    If a co-worker from my branch wins the whole task, will I get any SchruteBucks?
    If your branch submits a creation from one of your co-workers as the branch's official submission, and that submission is chosen the overall winner, all branch members will receive Sb in return.

    I still have a lot of questions about tasks.
    Don't worry. Every task will be explained fully when it's assigned, including the deadline, tips and tricks, the SchruteBucks that will be awarded and any other prizing available for that task.

    I worked really hard on a task, and want to show my efforts to friends and family who aren't DMI employees. Is that possible?
    Yes. All Public view pages are visible to users even if they're not employees of DMI. Many tasks, once they're complete, will spawn new areas of DMI where employees' work can be showcased for all to see.


    TROUBLESHOOTING


    I think some employees be may be cheating the system to gain extra SchruteBucks.
    Integrity and fairness are of the utmost importance to DMI and DMI does not tolerate cheating and users who cheat are in violation of DMI rules. This includes, but is not limited to: hacks, executing hidden code to gain extra points, playing a game multiple times when the rules clearly state that is not allowed, and voting more than once for the same employee account using "clone" accounts (i.e. multiple employee accounts created solely for the purpose of gaining additional votes).

    What I experience a problem with my registration/profile/SchruteBucks/submissions etc.?
    Please report any issues occurring within DMI by filling out the feedback form.

    I tried to upload a video to my profile and received a "Transcoding Error" message. What does that mean?
    There are many factors that will prevent a video to not be properly uploaded or "transcoded" to the site. Generally, the problems fall into two categories. The first category deals with inherent problems with the video file itself. In these cases, the video is created with a codec that DMI does not support. DMI supports the most popular codecs on the Internet today, but many companies, especially consumer electronics manufacturers and small video editing software companies, create custom codecs that are optimized for their hardware and/or software, but not recognized by the general marketplace. What is even more confusing to the consumer is that these videos with the custom codecs may have the file extension of popular video formats such as AVI or MOV, but are not really compliant to the file format standard.

    The second category of video problems tends to be a result of user intervention. For example, videos that were created as one file format with a certain file extension such as MPEG are renamed by the user to WMV. Although NBC supports both file formats as acceptable uploads, the system reads the file extension and applies the presumed translation filter to convert the video file, which, of course, fails as it cannot properly understand the original video file. In extreme cases, we have even received photos files with the JPEG extension renamed with a video format extension.

    To avoid these types of problems, it is best to save your video in the most popular formats and not change the file extensions. It is also recommended that you play your video in other programs such as Apple QuickTime or Windows Media Player and not solely rely on the video creation software player to test your video playback. If the video does not play properly in these applications, it will most likely not be uploaded to the site correctly.

    Will someone actually answer my email?
